Moore Family -- Golden Hour Lifestyle Photography, Madison AL

In the photography world, "Golden Hour" is a term used to denote that most magical of moments, about 30 minutes before sunset or after sunrise.  No, it's not, strictly speaking, a full hour, but that's beside the point.  The point is how beautiful and golden it is at this time.  Skin tones are peachy and warm, eyes dance with light, the air around us takes on a hazy, almost other-worldly feel.  It's the most beautiful time of day.

Now add in something even more magical: the bonds of family and lifetime love and deep, lasting commitment -- and do you know what you have?  You have the True Golden Hour.  This is the most wonderful thing.  And when I'm able to capture all of it -- the light, the love, the pure, sparkling joy -- through the lens of my camera, I swear it's like I've died and gone to heaven.  It's lifestyle photography at it's very best, showcasing the most sublime of human bonds.  Pure happiness, I tell you.

Mother & Daughter -- Huntsville, AL lifestyle family photographer

Jenni is a dear -- dear! -- friend of mine.  Over the last year and a half we've gone from "nice to meet you" to working as business partners on weddings as Tulip & Thistle Wedding Photography.  She's an amazing photographer who has allowed me to sit-in and absorb her editing techniques, shared photography tips, and don't even get me started on the amount of cheerleading she's supplied me with.  She's pretty much just an amazing woman -- clever, witty, honest, and down-to-earth.  I thank my lucky stars to have stumbled into our friendship.

Of course I was more than happy to do a few head shots for her!  I even invited her beautiful daughter along for a few Mommy & Me captures, just outside Huntsville in the heart of Madison, Alabama.  It was definitely one of the highlights of my summer photography experiences.  Gorgeous sunlight, wildflowers, that earthy Secret Garden vibe -- and two beauties for the price of one!

Pretty as a Peacock -- Huntsville, AL family photographer

Meet Caroline.

But to me, she is Carrie.  She will always be Carrie.  I find myself slipping up and calling her Carrie on occasion (actually I always do it in my head, even if it doesn't come out of my mouth), despite my best efforts at respecting the beautiful, accomplished, brilliant woman she has become:  wife, mother, pediatric RN.  Carrie she is, and Carrie she will always be.

Why?

Because this:

That's right.  I've known Carr -- erm... Caroline for years and years and years and years.  At one point in our lives we were inseparable, wild imaginations flying about in darkened woods, My Little Ponies, cartoons, sleepovers and giggles.  We even sported the same haircut so identically that her dad once confused me for her.  Truth.

We don't look so much alike anymore.  I keep my hair very short these days and she lets hers grow out.  And I'm a bit taller.  But I like to think we could still pass as sisters.  Once a Brownie, always a Brownie.  Once a friend, always a friend.  Yup.  Sisters.

I was so fortunate recently to travel to Longshadow, her parent's home in Tennessee (designed by Carrie's brother, architect and UT professor, James Rose) to photograph Caroline with her family:  an adoring husband (and by the way, she and I both married guys named Chris), two of the most beautiful daughters a mother could ever hope to have (It was like seeing little Carrie all over again -- times two!), and energy-filled Labradoodle Archie.  It was such joy to spend the evening with her family.  It was almost like old times.  Minus the brown uniforms.
