Quarantine: boredom leads to creation

Social Distancing is for the birds, am I right? I can only imagine how it feels for the Extroverted among us, but even as an Introvert, I’m finding it difficult to exist without regular stimulation from the outside world. I’ve turned a few times to social media, but it’s about as uplifting as an overcooked spaghetti noodle, what with its bickering and news reports swinging a girl this way and that.

The memes are pretty good though — and y’all, TikTok is on fire! The world, it seems, after exhausting its resources, has turned to creativity — so much art and expression is going on in the world it positively makes my head spin. I too found myself in a bored place, itching to craft something new, but lacking clients and models (my teenaged daughters didn’t wanna pose for me any more), I cast my eye about my house for inspiration.

My eye landed on my extensive Funko Pop collection. I spent a few days mulling it over, trying to figure out how to make some sort of cohesive sense with Labryinth’s Ludo and Wonder Woman and Jem and Papa Smurf and Disney princesses and Doctor Who and his T.A.R.D.I.S. —

Wait!

Doctor Who and his T.A.R.D.I.S.! He likes to get out of the house and have adventures! I knew he’d know what to do in love and the time of Covid-19! So I set to work, crafting a sort of visual story, of a Doctor and his Rose …

I showed the photos to my husband, and he loved them — but the image nodding to the Magic Kingdom positively lit him up like a kid at Christmas … and I knew exactly why.

We are Disney Parks people …. and living without our beloved Disney parks these last few weeks has just about crushed our souls — but no soul is as crushed as my husband’s. Even with my occasional leaky eyes at the missing the magical feeling of walking down Main Street in Magic Kingdom, it can’t hold a candle to how torn up my sweet husband is that he can’t get to his happy place, his make-everything-right-in-the-world-again place.

So I wanted to make more images — for him this time. And if it made others smile too, brought joy to the world in some small way, then all the better!

Envisioning a time when The Doctor and Rose could have their “best day ever”, I used photos I’ve taken over the last couple years as a Disney Parks Annual Passholder — and the rest is magical history. Enjoy!
