Fuller Family in Magic Kingdom
Ahhh, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Could there be anything more grand than a day spent in the happiest, most magical place on earth? Toss in an evening of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, a beautiful family to photograph, and a mutual love for all things Haunted Mansion, and basically you’ve just described my dream come true.
Meet the Fuller Family. They’re a fun-loving Kentucky clan who love Disney World as much as I do — so, a lot!
Not only did this family of six invite me to join them for a couple of hours of their family vacation (a dreamy “land and sea” Disney cruise + Florida theme park combo planned for them by Brooke Martin at Magical Wishes Travel), this wonderful family did so during the annual Halloween-themed night of tricks and treats.
We met under the Magic Kingdom Railroad Station where we were lucky enough to catch the park’s daily flag ceremony in which a Veteran is hand-chosen from the crowd to help retire the flag for the day — and who then gets to take the flag home as a precious souvenir. If you’ve never been present for this, you simply must make time for it. The ceremony takes place every afternoon around 2 hours before sunset.
From there I simply spent time getting to know this sweet family a little better. Mom is a pediatrician while Dad owns and operates a family owned sporting goods store. Their super smart children are involved in football and cheerleading — and princesses! One tiny princess in particular knows how to steal the show.
And I won’t lie: it was so comforting chatting with these fine folks; hearing their slow Southern accent was like music to my ears. I’ve been missing home so much this season, being new to Florida myself, and the Fullers were a little slice of home to me, their kindness and warmth pouring from generous, Southern hearts.
The seven of us enjoyed our time in the park, chasing down Halloween candy, chasing light, maybe chasing a fairy or two.
In all honesty, I fell completely in love with these people. Dad is so obviously crazy about Mom, and they’re both entirely devoted to their children — and the children are devoted to each other. All of their distinct personalities, smooshed together into this beautiful melting pot of family love. It was such a blessing to spend that time with them.
As is often the case, I found myself in awe of the fact that I get to do this every day — meet such wonderful people, spend time with families laughing and talking. I swear, these people bless me far more than I could ever bless them.
Thank you, Fuller Family, for inviting me into your gracious space. Photographing you has been a gift and an honor.
